RecoGnised Prior Learning

This course is designed for teams that have a achieved a high level of training through post-graduate study and  your dog is 12 months old.  who would like to achieve certification as a Therapy Dog Team.   We will also consider teams who have worked for a minimum of 12 months as a therapy team that are able to pass our assessment criteria. 

As with all RPL you will be required to provide proof of study and experience: 

• This will be in the form a professional degree (Social Work, Psychology,  Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Teaching etc) 
• Post graduate Study  relating to working as a Therapy Dog Team - for example having completed our Professional Therapy Dog Team Training and Accreditation or similar.
• Participated in dog training - dog to have aquired basic skils such as sit, come, heel etc

Along with proof of study and experience, you will be required to complete an online  knowledge assessment and provide videos of you and your dog working together demonstrating basic commands (heel, sit etc) and demonstrating the bond between you and your dog.  

Once you have passed the all the initial criteria and knowledge assessment you will be invited to attend our assessment days where you will be assessed on your teamwork, which includes: 

• Your understanding of dog body language
• How to advocate for your dog 
• Understanding dog consent 
• Basic training skills - sit, heel, come, stay
• FInally, how you work together in a real scenario - visit to a nursing home. 

Once you have passed these assessments you will become a certified Therapy Dogs NSW Therapy Dog Team, and be supplied with a licence, we also have therapy dog coats available for purchase through Stylishdogs.org.au - that come with our logo.
